The 30-Day Credit Plan
A day-by-day plan to understand, clean up, and start rebuilding your credit. Fifteen minutes a day. 30 days. Free.
What this plan will and won't do
What it does
- Walks you through the same steps a good credit counselor would, in the order that gets results fastest.
- Shows you exactly what's on your file, and how to correct what's wrong, for free.
- Cuts the one number that hurts most people's scores.
- Sets up the habits that keep it climbing after day 30.
What it doesn't
- Promise you a specific number of points. Nobody honestly can.
- Claim accurate negative marks can be removed. They can't, by anyone.
- Sell you credit repair. Most of it you can do yourself in an afternoon.
- Pretend disputing fixes a debt problem. Sometimes the answer is debt, not credit.
What your score is actually made of
Most credit advice throws twenty tips at you without saying which matter. Here's the weighting FICO actually uses. The top two are 65% of your score, and they're the two you can act on this month, which is why the plan front-loads them.
| Weight | Factor | In plain terms |
|---|---|---|
| 35% | Payment history | Do you pay on time? This is the big one. |
| 30% | Amounts owed | How much of your available credit are you using right now? |
| 15% | Length of credit history | How long have your accounts been open? |
| 10% | Credit mix | Do you have a mix of cards and loans? |
| 10% | New credit | Have you opened a lot of accounts recently? |
The four weeks
Find out where you actually stand
You cannot fix what you have not looked at. This week is pure information gathering. No decisions yet.
Correct what is wrong
Disputes are free, they are a legal right, and you do not need to pay anyone to file them.
Cut the number that hurts most
Payment history is the biggest factor, but you cannot change the past. Amounts owed is 30% of your score and you can change it this month. This is the fastest lever you have.
Build for the long run
The cleanup is done. Now you build the things that compound.
Start with Day 1 today
It takes about twenty minutes and it's free. Most people have never actually looked at all three reports, and that's usually where the surprises are hiding.
